Be A Donor
Sean’s blood type is O positive. He can only receive a kidney from an O positive donor. (We can assist with you finding out your blood type). GREAT NEWS if your blood type is not O positive. There is a program called the Kidney paired donation. Kidney paired donation, or KPD, also called kidney exchange, gives that transplant candidate another option. In KPD, living donor kidneys are swapped so each recipient receives a compatible transplant. Either way you are sharing the gift of life.
The transplant would take place at Vanderbilt Hospital for me, a top hospital in Nashville for living kidney donation. Donors must be free of kidney disease, heart attack diabetes, cancer, kidney stones, high blood pressure and obesity. Donors also have the option of having the procedure at a local hospital and the kidney would be transferred to Vanderbilt where I would receive the kidney.
A LIVING DONATION is a voluntary gift of one kidney (we only need one) by a person who is able. There are many benefits. It is a safe, proven laparoscopic procedure which can be done immediately. Donors are tested thoroughly to ensure SAFE and HEALTHY outcomes. All medical expenses, travel, lodging, and time lost at work by the donor may be covered.
Ready to save a life and donate.
If you have already made up your mind and would like to donate, you can fill out the donor form by clicking the link LIVING DONOR INTAKE FORM or call (615) 936-0695 and press option 2 at Vanderbilt Hospital. Labs and blood work can be drawn at a location near you to determine if you would be a match or good candidate.
We understand organ donation is not for everyone, and that is okay. Many cannot donate, but you may know someone who can. Please spread the word and send this site to many people as know to help spread the word about becoming a donor.
The more people know about kidney donation the greater the chance of saving Sean’s life and the lives of so many with kidney failure.
